Iskandar R. Sharazuddin, Associate at Headlong Theatre Ltd. and winner of the Tony Craze Playwriting Award at Soho Theatre, presents an introduction to writing theatre with practical exercises, writing provocations, and a 101 on dramatic structure. Starting from a place of imagery, participants will explore what it means to write dramatic text. Inspired by Lorraine Hansberry’s A Raisin in the Sun which is a seminal piece of work written in response to the Langston Hughes poem, Harlem.
Co-facilitated by Nottingham poet and performer, Michelle Hubbard the workshops will explore the intersection of poetic language and dramatic form and give participants the opportunity to put writing exercises directly into practice to generate new ideas, new writing, and new approaches to playwriting.
