Each year the National Theatre commissions ten new plays for young people to perform, bringing together some of the UK’s most exciting writers with the performers of tomorrow.

300 youth theatre companies and over 6,000 young people from every corner of the UK take part and produce a Connections play each year. Nottingham Playhouse is one of the regional theatres that makes National Theatre Connections able to happen across the whole country.

Companies of young people who have been allocated Nottingham Playhouse as their partner theatre will be part of our vibrant whole-building festival. They will take over the Playhouse to perform their plays in front of live and celebratory audiences and there will be many creative activities to get involved in. With a fun photo booth, Q&As by industry professionals, workshops, poster walls, pop-up stages, professional headshots/photographs and chill out spaces, it will be a complete celebration of the power of live theatre.

The 2022 Nottingham Playhouse National Theatre Connections Festival will take place 4th-6th April.
