Making It Up – Core Skills
Fridays, 18 Sep - 4 Dec (excl 23 & 30 Oct)The Improvised Comedy Group
Autumn Term will go on sale on Fri 19 June, 12pm.
This group will teach you the core principles of improvised comedy. You’ll learn everything you need to create scenes out of nothing, with no script and no plan. Over ten weeks you’ll discover how to establish a scene quickly and clearly, find a character within it, and build the relationship at its heart. You’ll get to grips with the golden rule of improv, saying “yes, and” to your scene partner, and you’ll learn how to create an ensemble that truly supports one another, on stage and off.
We work towards long-form improvisation, where scenes connect and grow into something bigger. But we take our time getting there. Each week is full of playful exercises that build your skills and confidence step by step, so that by the time you’re improvising longer scenes, you feel ready to jump in and enjoy it.
At the end of term, you’ll put everything into practice and perform a showcase for an audience.
Above all, this is a supportive, welcoming environment where collaboration is key and “mistakes” are all part of the fun. No acting or improv experience is needed. Whoever you are, you’re welcome to give it a go.
