Are you sitting on the need to write but have no idea what to write? Maybe you’ve hit a wall in your own writing, or you’re wanting to pick writing back up. Do you want a fun, no pressure group to join to support each other and get your writing? Well it’s time to Write Now! 

Write Now is a writing group that meets twice a month at Nottingham Playhouse. We’re a relaxed, informal group dedicated to getting pen to paper.

In our first session we will write out a list of prompts and a list of rules. Each session ends with us picking out prompts and rules, and going away to write to those selected. We’ll come back and share what we’ve written and listen to everyone’s stories, like show and tell but for your little weird scripts. It’s a writing group to just get you writing.

If the prompts and ideas don’t gel with you, you can also use this space to sit and just write your own work. You may hate everything you write and never use it again, or you may end the sessions with the groundwork for many many many different stories to be told!

We’re a relaxed group, peer led, and will meet mostly in person with some online sessions in between. You don’t need to have written anything before, or you could be a playwright with years of experience. This group is for everyone at every stage.

Write Now is:

  • A fun relaxed writing group to get people writing
  • Structured by a writing game, so each week participants are writing prompts generated by the group and then sharing what they’ve written to the rest of the group
  • No pressure, drop into each session or join whatever you’re able to
  • A space for people to just sit and write at the side if they want to body double their writing
  • A place to ask advice and share ideas
  • An opportunity for professional playwrights or inspiring playwrights to just sit and have fun writing together
  • An inclusive, safe space that doesn’t accept any hate speech or bigoted writing
  • This group is not about developing a particular script but instead yourself as a writer. The group will focus on generating stories and ideas, so hopefully you could walk away with a bundle of ideas that can be transformed into something more.

Write Now is NOT:

  • A writing course, there are no formal learnings each session
  • A cold reads session; we are not providing performance opportunities, though we may read and discuss each others work

Meet the Artist

Annis McGee

Write Now is hosted by Annis McGee, a theatre maker and producer based in Nottingham. Annis is a member of Mouth House, a multimedia storytelling company, who are Innovate Artists at Lincoln Arts Centre and has performed at Amplify Festival in 2023. Annis is part of the Stage One Bridge The Gap cohort for this year, and has been nominated for their writing for Podcasts and stage. They currently work as Producer at In Good Company.
