Carbon Literacy Training has been core to empowering staff to absorb sustainability practices into their everyday working.

Carbon Literacy Trust accredited training, based on original training developed by Bristol Old Vic Theatre, is provided in-house to all staff, board members, freelancers and associates. This one-day course looks at our carbon footprint in both a personal and industry context. On completion of the training, participants write a short report, consolidating their understanding and making individual and group-based pledges to reduce their overall carbon footprint.

This training has been rolled out to over 75% of staff and earned Nottingham Playhouse a Carbon Literate Organisation Silver Award.

As a leading regional producing theatre, with in-house scenery and paint workshops, costume and props department, we also feel a responsibility to take action and demonstrate what is possible to the wider theatre industry. This includes training apprentices, staff, creatives and craftspeople in understanding the impact they can have as individuals, and the power of working together as a team.

The Carbon Literacy Trust provide free shareable courses to qualifying organisations.
