Sky Mirror is an established group of older dancers who work collaboratively to create and perform contemporary dance for performance within community settings.
Screen dance combines choreography and film making, allowing editing and experimenting with the audience view point, not available in a live performance. Inspired by and “partnered” with the 1960’s architecture of Nottingham Playhouse, our project will explore the relationship between dancers and this iconic theatre space. The eponymous Sky Mirror will of course play a significant role!
Artistic Director/film maker: Jo Petch.
Please note sessions times vary:
- 10.30am- 1pm from 10 September to 1 October
- 10am-1pm on 8 October
- 10am-3pm on 15 October
Who is the course for?
People with some previous dance experience who want to explore creating a screen dance collaboratively, develop skill in improvisation and generate movement ideas. Some sessions will be self led by the group, with tasks set by Jo, but always within a safe, inclusive and co-operative ethos for all participants.
What do I need to bring?
Please bring clothing and footwear you are comfortable moving around in for studio rehearsals and warm clothing for filming outside the theatre. We also recommend bringing a bottle of water.
We believe that theatre should be for everyone and always ensure our building and sessions are accessible to all participants, removing any barriers to participation. Find out more about Access at Nottingham Playhouse here and please tell us if there is anything further we can do to ensure our sessions are accessible for you. You can get in touch at participation@nottinghamplayhouse.co.uk.
