Sky Mirror Dance is a group of contemporary dancers aged 50+ who collaborate with choreographers to create pieces to perform in local community settings, provide workshops and classes.
What do we do?
- Creative Projects, working with local choreographers, we aim to co-create performance pieces to share in community settings throughout Nottinghamshire. We have worked with experienced dance artists Jo Petch, Sophie Thorpe, Siobhan Hayes and Naomi Moore, for example. Each block is made up of weekly sessions (typically 2.5 hours each) over a couple of months. We usually rehearse at Nottingham Playhouse (NG1 5AF).
- Performance Opportunities – in recent years, we’ve taken part in the Nottingham Playhouse summer participation event, performing on the main stage. We have also created a Screen Dance: Stages of Illusion, in collaboration with Jo Petch. That has been shown at various events, and we have also attended and performed at Dance East in Ipswich (May 2024), as well as the Generate Festival at FABRIC, Nottingham (December 2024).
- Weekly classes (typically 1.5 hours) are led by a variety of local choreographers and practitioners. Each session stands alone, allowing you to select the dates to suit you, on a pay-as-you-go basis. The classes are aimed at both beginners and improvers, and run through most of the year, with promotion via email and social media.
