Rootz theatre group is a creative space for young people with experience of living in care. The sessions enable participants to mature and establish their skills in many aspects of performing arts, whilst also building confidence, developing key employability skills and a support network of like-minded peers.

The workshops are a relaxed space that cater to both beginners and more experienced young artists and are totally free of charge. Led and facilitated by local, professional artists, participants gain valuable insight into how to develop:

  • Their own creative work, with the opportunity to share their talents on stage in a real, working theatre.
  • Confidence and techniques for auditions and interviews both in and outside of the arts industry.
  • Deeper understanding of theatrical roles in a producing theatre, such as directors, actors, writers and production teams.

In addition, participants are also offered free tickets to shows, backstage tours and industry talks.

Testimonial – Parent of Rootz Participant

“I just wanted to say how much [name] is enjoying your Rootz sessions. They really look forward to going and comes out buzzing! I think it’s a fabulous group and [name] loves the fact that there are other people with a similar background there and will have some unspoken understanding of each other. They’re really looking forward to the backstage tour next time and the press night in May. Thanks for doing the group and obviously inspiring them”
