We have committed to a two year relationship with five Nottingham primary schools, working together to embed drama and performance across the KS 1 and 2 curricula, as well as early years.
We know drama and the arts can help young children develop better communication skills, speak more confidently, grow wellbeing, help them to connect socially, explore emotions, understand teamwork and develop initiative and freedom of thought.
Following a rigorous selection process, the first 5 Primary Partner schools for 2021 – 2023 are:
The Florence Nightingale Academy
Mellers Primary School
Mapperley Plains Primary
Middleton Primary
Southglade Nursery and Primary School
Each Primary Partner enjoys unrivalled and wide-ranging access to Nottingham Playhouse staff, facilities and expertise including:
- Visits to productions
- Backstage tours
- Teacher training
- Workshops
- Priority access to classes and courses
- Collaborative planning
- School production support
- Connection to other arts organisations
- Connection to other schools embedding arts across their curriculum
- Potential to work towards Artsmark status
We build a meaningful and sustainable approach to collaboration and arts provision that will live far beyond the 2 year relationship. Primary Partners is about all subject areas and aiding cross-curricular topic work – using drama and performing arts to explore STEM subjects, arts subjects, oracy, literacy, numeracy, vocabulary and much more.
The five unique relationships will be built collaboratively through discussion between our Participation Team and school management and teaching staff, so as to arrive at shared objectives and an understanding of the challenges faced. The ultimate aim is for each school to become confident and dynamic in an embedded approach to arts and culture across all year groups.
Each Primary Partner school pays £2,000 each year, receiving provision worth in excess of £10,000.
The two year period runs from Autumn 2021 until Summer 2023.
