Nottingham Playhouse Workshops
Nottingham Playhouse Workshops is a brand-new facility offering state of the art storage facilities for hire to the theatre industry. Our team of highly skilled craftspeople can also offer set building, with specialist departments in Scenery, Props, Costume and Scenic Art. We have installed a range of modern technology, aimed at making us more efficient and flexible.
Opened in January 2026, the Workshops will provide a step change in our Sustainability aims, by offering additional storage and recycling of our sets, costumes etc whilst also offering our skills and facilities to the wider theatre industry.
As one of the few remaining full producing theatres, we create up to 11 in-house productions every year.

Storage
Our 31, 140sq ft Workshops offer:
- Ample Capacity: Over 30 trailer-sized bays, offering storage for a variety of needs, from small-scale props to large-scale sets
- Flexible Solutions: Flexible storage options, suitable for short-term or long-term storage
- Inventory Control: A detailed inventory system makes it easy for clients to track and access their stored assets
- Secure Storage: A safe and secure environment for valuable sets and props
- Expert Handling: A highly skilled and trained team, experienced in handling theatre sets
- Refurbishment: Light repairs, refurbishment and repainting by the Nottingham Playhouse expert team, priced on application
- Convenient Location: Within close reach of both Junctions 24 and 25 of the M1, in a central Nottingham location on Little Tennis Street

Our Services
In the near future, we will be able to offer set-building by our highly-skilled team of Craftspeople. We create world-class theatre, from scratch, in Nottingham and our productions, sets and costumes have been seen worldwide.
Our Workshop team includes specialists in the following:
Scenic Workshop
With experts in Woodworking and Metalworking, we can create any large scale scenery or scenic elements required. Suitable for in-house productions or made to touring specifications. From traditional materials and modes of construction to state of the art fabrication with laser-cutters, we can work in any material specified.
Scenic Art Workshop
- Our team of permanent Scenic Artists is supported by highly skilled freelancers. Accomplished in a broad range of techniques, our team can produce anything from hyper-realism to fairytale panto.
- Our mechanical vertical timber paint frame, which holds cloths up to 11.5m by 7m, allows extensive backdrops to be created.
- Our space will accommodate a stage floor, meaning we can also paint full show floors.
Props Workshop
- Our Props Workshop are expert at creating props of every kind, from mechanical to practicals to consumables, our highly experienced team can create everything you can imagine, and then some.
Costume Workshop
- Our highly-experienced team of Costume Makers create all our costumes from scratch for our in-house productions. Working to designers’ specifications and sourcing materials, creating practical solutions and finishing to the highest quality, they can also call upon skilled freelancers when needed.
- Nottingham Playhouse costumes will be available to hire in the near future.
Panto Hire
- Our legendary Nottingham Playhouse panto sets, props and costume are all created in our Workshops to the highest standards. They are now available for hire. With incredible attention to detail and unique designs, our panto sets will light up your stage and stand out from the crowd.
